Nutrition in the WHO region of the Americas
Description
INCAP was created in 1949 by the government of the Central American countries to study their basic nutrition problems and devise a realistic approach to their solution. It developed a broad research programme and was actively engaged in the training of personnel for nutrition work. INCAP receives financial support from several organizations and Health ministers from the eight member countries (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Dominican Republic) and Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO / WHO) conform the Directing Council, which is the highest body of management of the institution.
INCAP Nutrition Centre at Santa Catarina Barahona in Guatemala, where an INCAP field worker, is giving Incaparina and banana to some 150 pre-school age children to supplement their diet.
