Description
CONTROL IN THE LABORATORY
The tragedy of thalidomide, the birth of deformed babies to thousands of women who have taken this tranquiliser, has inevitably shaken confidence in present measures to control new drugs and led to the demand that they be tightened up to prevent anything similar occurring in the future. Toxicity tests on animals are an essential part of the control of new drugs. This series of photographs shows the preparation of part of an organ for examination under the microscope. In a large research laboratory in the United Kingdom, 30,000 microscopic preparations are examined in a year.
Stained preparation ready for microscopic examination.
