Headline Nutrition in the WHO region of the Americas 
Description Nutrition is the intake of food, considered in relation to the body's dietary needs. Good nutrition - an adequate, well balanced diet combined with regular physical activity - is a cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity.

This little boy from Guatemala-City, is a victim of kwashiorkor, a disease which cannot touch children who get enough milk, meat, eggs or protein-rich food. The spots on his face are typical of this disease which is widespread in the tropics and sub-tropics among children who on weaning are deprived of their mother's milk.
