Malaria in the WHO African Region
Description
In view of the great need throughout the African Region for an increase in trained national personnel in all aspects of malaria eradication techniques, centres providing for such training in English and French were established by WHO in Lagos, Nigeria, and Lomé, Togo with the cooperation and material assistance of the two governments. The objective of these centres was to provide courses for different levels of professional and auxiliary personnel, both national and international, and facilities for training courses in malaria eradication techniques. Our photos show a training course at the Lagos WHO International Malaria Eradication Training Centre.
Mr J. Shute, parasitology instructor, collects blood smears from the ear of a monkey infected with malaria. The samples will be used by the students for microscopic studies and research.
