Bangladesh - Diphtheria Prevention in Refugee Camps - 2017
Description
In the summer of 2017 after a wave of violence broke out in the Rakhine State of Myanmar, more than 700,000 Rohingya people - half of them children - sought refuge in Bangladesh. This massive exodus was followed by the rise of diphtheria among the extremely vulnerable population with low vaccination coverage and living in densely populated temporary settlements. WHO and its partners worked to contain the spread of the highly infectious respiratory disease through adequate prevention and effective treatment.
A panoramic view of the sprawling makeshift Balukhali camp, which consists of improvised tents and other forms of arranged dwellings.
