Medical training in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean region
Description
Health services cannot be created overnight. It takes at least 8 years of general education before a student can enter on professional training for health work. It takes 20 years of education to qualify as a doctor and 30 or more years to prepare a teacher of doctors. It is hard facts like these which caused the United Nations to declare 1970 International Education Year. WHO accepts the challenge in the full knowledge of the magnitude of the task. WHO proposes no blueprint for reform, no ready-made solutions to the manifold problems, but is ready to assist the governments and educators of its member nations to work out and implement solutions which suit their unique needs and circumstances.
