Headline Mental health in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean region 
Description In 1957, the Jordanian Government established the country's first Mental Health Service, with the help of WHO. WHO consultant, Dr Abdul Mohamed Labban has been asked to transform the Bethlehem Mental Hospital.

Dr Abdul Rahman Mohamed Labban was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1924. He has studied psychiatry at the universities of Beirut and London, has been in charge of a hospital in Kuwait and taught at his home-town university.
