Headline
Cancer in the WHO European region
Description
The USSR against cancer. In its fight against cancer, the USSR concentrated on mass examination, treatment and research. All men over 35 and all women over 30 had to be examined at least once a year. Twenty million people in the USSR were examined in 1963. The mass campaign began in 1948 and was intensified in 1964.
Dr Mark Solomonovich Teiman, head of the cancer service at No. 5 Hospital in Moscow.
