Description
WHO Malaria Control Team in Lebanon.
Malaria is a serious problem in many parts of Lebanon so the government of the country has asked the World Health Organization to help train Lebanese doctors and nurses in the latest methods of malaria control. One of the first jobs of the field teams under the charge of Dr Gabriele Gramiccia of WHO is to compile statistics indicating the percentage of the population in any given area that show evidence of having suffered from malaria. Here, Dr Gramiccia examines children in the school of Deddeh to determine the spleen and parasite index. Previously this village had a lot of malaria, now it is being brought under control. Periodically the people of the village are examined, especially the children.
