Cardiovascular diseases in the WHO region of the Americas
Description
From 1959 until 1973, the entire population of Tecumseh, Michigan has been the subject of a long-range epidemiological study dealing with the relationship of environmental and genetic factors to major chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases. The town was chosen for its proximity to the researchers' institution, the University of Michigan, as well as its mixture of suburban and rural residents. While cardiovascular disease was of central interest to the investigators, infectious and other types of chronic illness were studied in the cohort.
