Headline
Diabetes in Jordan - 2016
Description
Diabetic Syrian adolescent giving himself an insulin shot at his makeshift home in the Zaatari refugee camp.
The teenager greatly benefited from guidance provided the Jordan Health Aid Society (JHAS). Among the health education programmes run by JHAS staff are ones that focus on self administration of insulin injections. JHAS teams also monitor Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) cases with clinic and home medical check ups. During such visits to diabetic patients, the healthcare professionals examine their overall health, nutritional practice, insulin injection technique, and insulin storage conditions. Keeping the insulin cool at the Zaatari refugee camp with limited electricity access can be difficult, especially during the hot summer months.
Since Zaatari opened in July 2012 to host Syrians fleeing the violence in the ongoing Syrian Civil War, it has become the world’s largest camp for Syrian refugees.
