Headline
Diabetes in Nigeria - 2016
Description
Though the diabetic patient declined to be identified, he consented to having his feet photographed at the Rainbow Specialist Medical Center. As Dr Afoke Isiavwe, an endocrinologist, examined his diabetic feet ulcers, the patient explained how he was first diagnosed with diabetes while in university. The initial visible symptoms were ulcers on both his feet that never healed and eventually lead to sloughing and debridement of gangrenous patches. He now wears specialized footwear and plans to set up a diabetes foundation for less privileged patients.
