Headline
Maternal and child health in the WHO European region
Description
For the first time, Mrs Toprak, of Ankara, who already had eight children, has trained professional help during the delivery of her ninth child, for it is only recently that a Mother & Child Health Centre was opened in Ankara - with the help of the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund and with the support of funds from the UN expanded programme for Technical Assistance. The centre was then carried on by the national staff. A maternal and child health section was set up in the Turkish Ministry of Health and the WHO team helped its staff in preliminary work towards the setting up of a plan for the country as a whole.
Mother, doctor and nurse are satisfied with his progress.
