Headline WHO team completed an Environmental Surveillance (ES) mission in Mosul, Iraq - 16 November 2023 
Description The WHO Iraq Polio team completed an Environmental Surveillance (ES) mission in Mosul and Suly where staff at water treatment station with capacity were trained in the field on sewage sample collection.The training provides essential data collection from outreach areas, gives insights into Poliovirus circulation, and assesses the risk of PV in endemic and outbreak countries.The Environmental Surveillance complements current Polio surveillance and strengthens our preparedness against potential health threats.Maintaining Iraq's Polio Free status, WHO Polio team is working closely with Iraqi Ministry of Health and other stakeholders from Ninawa Sewage and Environment Directorates, to explain the new Environmental Surveillance measures and methods for sample collection to detect Polio Virus.
