Headline Water in the WHO region of the Americas 
Description Water is essential for life. The amount of fresh water on earth is limited, and its quality is under constant pressure. Preserving the quality of fresh water is important for the drinking-water supply, food production and recreational water use. Water quality can be compromised by the presence of infectious agents, toxic chemicals, and radiological hazards.

Water pipes are laid down in Peru. By the end of 1975, the Peruvian Government plans to provide safe water to 92 per cent of the people living in villages of between 200 and 2,000 inhabitants.
