Mali: "As their ancestors lived" by Pierre A. Pittet, 1962
Description
Africa in transition is little by little yielding its last secrets. Concealed at the foot of the cliff of Sangha near the bend of the Niger, the Dogons have continued to live in the same way since their ancestors first sought refuge here in the 12th century to escape from war. Architecture and dress are still as of old. Daily take also have remained the same and are linked to food and water. The Dogons, as a World Health photographer, Pierre Pittet, saw them, are now living their last years in the old tradition, for they also have heard the call of the modern world.Â
View of a village from the cliff. In the foreground, a man is repairing the roof of his house.
