Description
Eco-bio research project in Brazil, investigating how to prevent mosquitoes from biting and transmitting dengue. This area has the highest concentration of dengue reported cases in the country. Community leaders and volunteers reduced mosquito breeding by cleaning backyard areas. The city has also developed a new way of cross mapping data so they can rapidly identify outbreaks. The data is provided by community health workers.
Residents in Fortaleza, Brazil learn how containers that can collect stagnant water are breeding sites for the Aedes mosquito.
-
The research was sponsored by the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) and Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
