Description
Dr Heather Papowitz attends the National Vaccination marathon weekend in Bucharest Romania, October 22, 2021. WHO is supporting Romania to tackle rising COVID- 19 cases. Dr Heather Papowitz is an American doctor who worked with the Department of Health in New York City during the height of their pandemic. She has more than 20 years’ experience leading and managing programmes for health emergency and disaster risk management, preparedness and emergency response. She has met with national counterparts and conduced rapid field assessments to gain a first-hand understanding of the COVID-19 crisis. Dr Papowitz will work together with national health authorities to identify key priorities and immediate actions to be WHO recommends that each eligible person to get the vaccine that is offered when their turn comes. The evidence speaks clearly: vaccines work in reducing severe sickness and deaths from COVID-19. At the same time, we need to complement vaccination uptake with non-medical measures. While COVID-19 vaccination is proven to protect from severe disease and death it reduces, but does not eliminate, the chance of catching and spreading COVID-19. Our best chance to end this pandemic is to get vaccinated when you can and make sure you take personal protective measures, regardless of your vaccination status.
