Headline
Maternal and Child Health in the WHO African region
Description
In tropical Africa, although the birth rate was very high, the maternal death rate was alarming, and the infant death rate, in certain regions, was as high as 150-400 per 100 live births. In an effort to remedy this state of affairs health authorities tried to speed up the training of midwives, expand rural health services, and modernize the equipment of health centres for mothers and children.
