Fifteenth World Health Assembly (WHA15), Geneva, 8-25 May 1962
The World Health Assembly awarded the Léon Bernard Foundation Prize to Sir John Charles of the United Kingdom, for outstanding achievements in the field of social medicine. Sir John played an important role in the development of the national health services of his country and was Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health of the UK for the ten years before his retirement in 1960. Our photo shows Sir John A. Charles (left) receiving the prize from Dr Sergey V. Kurashov, Minister of Health of the USSR, President of the 15th World Health Assembly.
