PSARL: Mental Health and Psychosocial support programmes for Ukrainian refugees, Poland
Description
A staff member consults WHO mental health training manuals designed to help individuals deal with their emotional state. WHO Country Office Poland supports Podkarpackie Stowarzyszenie dla Aktywnych Rodzin (PSAR), an NGO based in Rzeszow, Poland, which runs Mental Health and Psychosocial support programmes for Ukrainian refugees.
Of the million plus Ukrainian Refugees in Poland, it is estimated that 22.1% of them have a mental health disorder and 5.1% have severe mental health disorders. Some refugees experience anxiety, stress and trauma due to their current and recent experiences of war and life as a refugee. They are fearful about their relatives and the future of their homeland. They lack stability, don’t have enough means and resources to live and many do not speak Polish. They experience loss of status. Some of them have PTSD symptoms, some resort to negative coping methods including alcohol. During the project duration, 750 MHPSS interventions will be provided to at least 250 Ukrainian refugees, including the most vulnerable (Roma, older persons, people with disabilities). This will help them to deal with their psychological and social problems and facilitate their inclusion and functioning in Poland.
