Bangladesh - Diphtheria Prevention at Rohingya Refugees Camps - 2017
Description
WHO, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and partners conducted a training for 35 clinicians caring for patients with diphtheria in the camps for forcibly displaced people from Myanmar in Bangladesh. Medical teams from the local government, Building Resources Across Communities (BRAC), International Organization for Migration (IOM), Samaritan Purse, Japanese and Iranian National Societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and Save the Children were provided with specific guidance on treatment protocols and management of patients with diphtheria and other public health measures to control and contain the current outbreak. This is the first of a series of training for clinicians, as diphtheria treatment facilities are expanding in the camp areas.
Jonathan Polonsky, WHO epidemiologist, speaks about the process in place for the daily reporting of diphtheria cases in the refugee camps.
