Description
The village of Birma. It is typical of the Egyptian Delta villages, crowded because the land is precious. Fuel (mostly corn or maize stalks) and manure are heaped on the roofs of the mud dwellings to economize space. Everyone is proud of the brand-new Social Center which is the focal point of the social life of the village. The boy scouts have their headquarters there, there are reading classes, dramatics, table tennis and the village Health Committee hold regular meetings at the Centre.
