Malaria in the WHO African Region
Description
In Kankiya District, Northern Nigeria, the home of some 25-30,000 people was experimentally sprayed with a carefully-selected new insecticide to see whether malaria transmission could be stopped. Kankiya lies in a "tough" savannah area, where the other insecticides did not work efficiently. The experiments were conducted by a WHO field research team, and the field-testing of one new insecticide was expected to take at least two years. If the experimental material proved successful it would be later used in the malaria eradication programme of many countries.
Before the huts are sprayed, all chattels and food must be moved outside.
