Effects of climate change in Kiribati
Description
Poisoned coconut palm bases killed by salt water.Tidal flood areas around Tabunginako village on Kiribati's outer Abaiang island. Previously protected by a seawall and filled with freshwater for aquaculture, failure of the seawall allowed rising seas to enter the freshwater area and contaminate it, killing fish, and poisoning nearby coconut plantations and taro crop growing 'pits'. The entire village has been relocated, and numerous homes destroyed.
